August 1 giveaway -

For this month's giveaway I have a skein of the colorway I dyed up for the August Phatfiber box theme of Africa.

Jackrabbit 4oz, colorway Red Desert.

This is a 4oz skein in the Jackrabbit base, a 2ply superwash merino in a fingering weight. 400yds, this is plenty for a pair of socks or a small lace project. I love this yarn; it's incredibly springy and has a lovely sheen. In this colorway, it's like a sunset over stones and sand.

My sister's family is visiting from the other side of the country, and I asked my niece for what folks should do to sign up for this giveaway. So, to sign up comment here with your favorite Looney Tunes character (or any animated character, really) any time through Thursday, August 5th to enter this random drawing.

This actually does have an obscure tie-in to my shop. My favorite animated character right now is Prince Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender. However, my shop name is a reference to the Bugs Bunny cartoon where Bugs falls for a mechanized rabbit on a greyhound racetrack. My usual username around the internet is "djinnj" which is very close to "djinn" which is where we get "genie" which works with "Jeanie, the light brown hare" variation of the song Bugs sings, which is a punning reference to the song Jeanie with the light brown hair.... Well, I said it was obscure!

So, pull up some pixels and let's talk about cartoons! :D And don't forget to leave a way to reach you or come back on Friday to see who won. Thanks!

Meanwhile, I'm giving away fiber on my Ravelry group.

Ooh, pretty.

My favorite animated character is probably Kiki, from Kiki's Delivery Service. I could watch that movie over and over and over.

Loony Tunes-wise? I liked Bugs, but I also had a soft spot for the Coyote in the roadrunner cartoons, and Tom from Tom and Jerry. My brother and I always thought that Jerry and the roadrunner were a little boring.

I'm kind of torn between Ponyo and Remy from Ratatouille as my current favorite cartoon characters. I love that little chef. I think I just like saying "Ponyo! Ponyo!" though. :D My favorite Looney Tunes character has always been, and will always be, Marvin the Martian. I used to draw him all over my high school notebooks.

"Le hiiissssssssss! I am a snake and you have charmed me, no?!" "Ze moon! Ze June! Ze spoon! C'est l'amour!! C'est toujours!" I love Pepe Le Pew. I can see myself saying in my best Pepe voice "Come to me, mon petite skein Red Desert d'Amour, ah what muzic we will knit, no?" Hopefully that drop-dead gorgeous yarn will not run away like one of Pepe's vict..., er girlfriends. Thanks for the giveaway.

Oh man ... could I talk about cartoons! I love how these days, animation has become more of a medium and less of a genre. I mean, it was always kind of that over in Japan, where there's NC-17 animation, but it has expanded the kind of stories people can tell. Look at Wall-E; that would've never been told if animation didn't exist; it would've been too expensive to produce. The impossible becomes simply a matter of imagining it.

Let me first tell all of you that this colorway rocks, I have one. But I'd love to have a second.

Does anyone here remember Clutch Cargo? The scary, poorly animated cartoon with moving human lips. My brothers and I used to watch it everyday before school, and it is, no doubt where my love of cheesy sci-fi was born.

And don't forget Johnny Quest. I loved that show, even though there were no girls in it.

And Speed Racer (why yes, I was the only girl in the family)! But I always thought Trixie should drive.

The Wild Thornberrys. Cause a mom with three girls and only one boy can't pass up a smart sassy heroine, with the bonus of Tim Curry as her Dad.

Orko from he-man was my favorite growing up. Although, I loved Violet on Rainbow Bright, and all the Smurfs. TMNT were cool. The road runner from looney toons.

Ok, here is my really obscure one. I was in love with mathman on square one. He was just a head with a U of Michigan football helmet on, but he taught me a lot.

Ooh, beautiful!

When I was a kid I loved the Road Runner best. Now my favourite is probably Edward from Fullmetal Alchemist (or Dobby the house elf, if CGI counts as animated).

My favorite animated character right now is probably Gaz or Zim from Invader Zim. I tend to like my characters ever so slightly megalomaniacal.

Mine is Wile E. Coyote - I remember him as endearingly stupid.

I love Witch Hazel. She was in a few cartoons with Bugs Bunny, and I crack up just thinking about the hairpins flying off her head and her great cackling laugh. That yarn is so fabulous, I'm going to ask Hazel to magic me up some luck.

I didn't watch cartoons as a kid, so most of my favorite animated characters are from more recent movies. I love Sully from Monsters Inc.

My favorite animated character is probably Lenore, the little dead girl created by Roman Dirge. She's pretty darkly fantastic. She means well, but she just can't seem to get the living dead girl thing right.

For example, her quest to find a new toy: (warning: while animated and silly, it's still dark): http://spookyland.com/webisodes/len_001.html

I loved that episode of Bugs Bunny and I remember it clearly. Do you remember the Elmer Fudd/Bugs Bunny episode where they are hunter/running through the forest to the music of some kind of ballet? Elmer sings, "Shoot the wabbit, shoot the wabbit...." Cracks me up to think about it. That's one of my faves. I also loved the gremlin that terrorized Bugs in another.
